Good Payday for Asselstine/Sexsmith!

Sixty three teams headed out at 7:00 and 7:20 a.m. on Sunday, July 17th for the third event of the 2011 Quinte Fishing Series season.    Wind and water were relatively calm as teams left with check-ins at 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. but weather forecasts were calling for higher winds in the afternoon which would affect the outcome of the day.

As the first flight started to trickle in, locals Danny Elliot and Ed Bunnett took the early lead with a good weight of 20.00 lbs. but that was erased a short time later when Campbellford’s Tom Brooke and Dan Crawford from Lakefield move ahead of them with another good weight of 20.30 lbs.    But that all changed when Andy Asselstine from Napanee and partner Jason Sexsmith from Marlbank took the lead with a great weight of 21.55 lbs. and with that the tournament win!    For their efforts, Andy and Jason took home $3,300.00 plus two prints courtesy of BassTazz Art and a $50.00 gift certificate from Kelsey’s/Montana’s, Belleville.      They added to their winnings as they also had big fish for the day, a smallmouth at 6.60 lbs. which gave them an additional $1,260.00.    They also received two $75.00 gift certificates courtesy of Canadian Tire, Belleville as well as two $25.00 gift certificates courtesy of the Boathouse Seafood Restaurant in Belleville, “Big Fish” plaque and BassTazz Art prints – all in all, a pretty good day of fishing!!

Brooke’s and Crawford remained in second place and took home $2,200.00 and keeping the third place spot were Elliot and Bunnett  with 20.00 and they received $1,200.00.   Taking home $900.00 for their fourth place weight of 19.10 lbs. were the father/son team of Rick and Rob Bowen of Napanee and weighing in 18.90 lbs. in fifth were Brad Arnott and Jay Martin from Toronto and they claimed $600.00.

Dean Thompson from Deseronto and partner Mike Burriss from Napanee took sixth place with 18.85 lbs. and received $450.00 and in seventh were locals Mat Seeley and Steve Yarrow who took home $350.00 for their weight of 18.45 lbs.   Colin Hunter of Toronto and partner Eric Thompson from Belleville claimed the eighth place money of $175.00 for their weight of 18.30 lbs. and in ninth were Kingston area’s Bruce Tufts and Lee Sprague who also received $175.00 for their weight of 18.05 lbs.

Last year’s “Team of the Year”, the Asselstine’s, Darcy and Ben, took the final spot with a weight of 17.50 lbs. and also received $175.00 and the top team in the 115 H.P. and Under division were another father /son team from Trenton, Tom and Jeff Adair, who received $175.00 for their weight of 17.15 lbs.

The Shimano Canada, second biggest fish award went to Toronto’s Alvin Tung and Charlie Lam with a 5.65 lb. fish that gave them two Cumara Shimano rods.

The “Back At Ya At Bay” angler appreciation award went to team #27, Bruce Tufts and Lee Sprague and they received their entry fee back - $175.00!   Our thanks to Bay Marine for sponsoring this added draw prize.

“We have a bit of a break now until our next event on August 13/14th , so get your entries in, stated tournament director Pete Thompson,  as we would like to keep our numbers in the sixties for the rest of the year”.
