SECOND WIN IN 2006 FOR THOMPSON AND BURRISS!
After winning the opening bass tournament of the 2006 Quinte Fishing Series
season on June 25th with an amazing weight of over 23 lbs., Napanee's Dean
Thompson and Mike Burriss took the top prize for their second win of the
season at the August 27th tournament in Trenton. With many teams finding the
fishing tough due to strong winds and rain, these two veteran anglers had
another great day weighing in 19.19 lbs., two pounds more than their nearest
competitor! "We had an amazing day", stated Mike on stage. "Dean tried a new
technique in prefishing this week, something neither of us has ever done
before, and today it proved to be a deadly method of fishing!" "We hope that
it will be something that will continue to work for us - we're pretty sure
that no one else is fishing or using this method". For their win Mike and
Dean took home $2,500.00 as well as two Q.F.S. coats from Mark's Work
Warehouse, a $50.00 gift certificate from Kelsey's/Montana's (Belleville)
and Tournament Champion hats and medallions from the Series.
Coming in second place out of the 56 boat field were Frankford's Kevin
Jaquith and Rob Couch from Stirling weighing in 17.05 lbs. and they received
$1,800.00 for their efforts. This team was also the top team in the 115 H.P.
and under division and in doing so claimed the Belleville Sport and Lawn 115
H.P. and Under Award of $150.00, as well as two spools of Power Pro quality
fishing line and hats compliments of Red Wing Tackle in Ajax.
Tyendinaga's Troy Maracle and Larry Pringle from Napanee, took third place
with a weight of 17.00 lbs., just .05 lbs. out of second, and pocketed
$1,100.00 for their placing while fourth place went to Belleville's Bill
Tripp and Frank Mondeville with 16.89 lbs. and they received $800.00.
Peterborough area anglers, Dan Crawford and John McGoey took home $500.00
for their fifth place weight of 16.87 lbs. while sixth spot went to the
husband and wife team of Mike and Mary Nabulsi and they claimed $$350.00 for
their weight of 16.71 lbs. The final payout went to Richard Campbell of
Courtice and Marlbank's Jason Sexsmith who weighed in 16.56 lbs. and
received $150.00.
The "Bass Magnet Lures" Big Fish Award went to Bill Scullion and Jim Lacey
who weighed in a largemouth of 4.58 lbs. "We fish a lot of topwater baits,
and I hooked this one at about 10:30 this morning" stated Bill. These
Shimano and Stratos boats sponsored anglers took home $1,120.00 in cash as
well as $150.00 in quality soft plastic baits compliments of Mike and Mary
Nabulsi at Bass Magnet Lures and Big Fish plaque.
"This year has been just great and the number of teams at each tournament
just keep going up with new teams joining us every tournament", explained
tournament director Pete Thompson. "We look forward to our final tournament
of the year, The Quinte Classic, on Sept.23/24th, added Thompson, as we will
be handing out a number of prizes and draws". Included in these awards will
be the crowning of the Series "Team/Angler of the Year" as well as our major
