Area (1) Every walleye migrating to or from the upper bay passes through Telegraph Narrows - a pickerel superhighway, especially in May and October. There is a noticeable current, over a rugged bottom of gravel, chunk-rock and limestone bedrock. Troll crankbaits, or drift with jigs tipped with night-crawler halves, minnows or Power grubs. Depths of 9 to 12 feet north of Buoys Q30 to Q40 are prime. Smallmouth bass love to hang along the sharp drop north of Telegraph Island and around the Skyway Bridge piers.
