The Trenton Kiwanis "WALLEYE WORLD" weekend was great fun for the
whole family. Entertainment, food and of course fishing was the main items
on the agenda for opening weekend. Organizers were happy with the crowd,
weather and fishing this past weekend. The only cloud on the horizon was a
slight decline in ticket sales. Sales were down 300 from last year's total of 5000 tickets. The
Kiwanis hope to turn this around for next year
by expanding the prize structure.
The Kiwanis have always tagged a number of fish and any
angler lucky enough to catch one could win thousands of dollars. This year
none of the tagged fish were caught but four Ministry of Natural Resources tags
were turned in earning the anglers $100.00 for their effort.

This year the winning walleye was caught by George Jones of Picton and
weighed 11.04 pounds. Jones caught the fish in Picton Bay very
close to the pump house near Picton Harbour. The fish was caught
on Saturday at 12:30am. The lucky lure for Jones was a Pygmy Spin
weight forward spinner tipped with a minnow. This was the third
year for Jones to enter the tournament and the walleye was the only
catch of the night. |
