1998WHITEFISH CHARGES ON TRENT RIVER RESULT IN $7,200 IN FINES

On November 27, 1998, 14 people pleaded guilty in Ontario Court (provincial division) in Trenton and were fined a total of $7,200 on charges related to unlawfully fishing for whitefish on the Trent River.Toronto area residents Mirko Dobrota, 59, Gorgos Karaiskakis, 62, BogoljubPanic, 54, Niko Mladenoski, 38, Milan Sapalovski, 59, Mitre Ristevski, 67,Waterloo resident Mike Milovanovic of Waterloo, 48, and Gary Sweet, 38, ofTrenton each pleaded guilty to a charge under the Ontario Fishery Regulations hooking whitefish in an illegal manner. Toronto area residents Wun-Kai Chong, 35, Gjorgji Krstevski, 42, Slavko Stamatoski, 38, Trajan Kitevski, 53, and Goce Naumoski, 39 and Sun-Ly Hok, 40, each pleaded guilty to a charge under the Ontario Fishery Regulations of unlawfully using a net to catch whitefish.With one exception, the defendants were fined $500 each. Sun-Ly Hok received a$700 fine. In addition to the fines, the court ordered all 14 men to forefeit their fishing equipment and fish seized from them at the time of the offences.The charges were the result of an investigation conducted by Conservation Officers of the Peterborough District of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
