Kerr/Janzen take win at Quinte Fishing Series fourth event.

The fourth tournament and third bass event of the 2007 Quinte Fishing Series schedule took place at George St., Belleville on Sunday, August 12th. A total of 69 teams blasted off in two flights at 7:00 and 7:20 a.m. with afternoon check-in at 4:00 and 4:30 p.m.

The waters at blast off were quite calm with little chop and a few teams made the decision to go to the “Lake” but as the day progressed, the wind came up and these and many other teams found the fishing tough and the trip back for weigh in a little rough.  Weights overall for this tournament were down from other events but when all teams had weighed in, Belleville’s Jeff Kerr and Ernie Janzen from St. Catherine’s had a great weight of 20.90 lbs. To take the win.  These two anglers took home $3,000.00 in prize money as well as two fleece coats compliments of Mark’s Work Warehouse, a $50.00 Gift Certificate from Kelsey’s/

Montana’s, Belleville and tournament champion hats.  “We had a good day and found a number of quality fish to put us over the top”, stated Kerr.  Ernie thanked Pete, Margo, Rick and staff for putting on great event and said how much he enjoys fishing this area.

Second place went to long time partners, Tom Brooke from Campbellford and Dan Crawford of Lakefield, who held the lead for most of the weigh in with a weight of 17.75 lbs.  These anglers received $2,100.00 and on stage Dan reminded anglers, “ we have a great fishery here on the Bay that is one of the best in the province but we all must look after it and promote live release”.  The husband and wife team of Chris and Mary Ann Frazee of Belleville with 17.60 lbs. took the $1,200.00 for their third place finish and fourth place went to Peterborough’s Michael Brown and Frank Doherty with 17.50 lbs. and they took home $800.00.  Brown and Doherty also claimed two additional prizes as they had “Big Fish” of the day giving them the H2Optix by Bolle/Bass Magnet Lures Big Fish Award of $1,360.00 in cash, a pair of sunglasses compliments of Bushnell Outdoor Products and $100.00 worth of soft plastic baits compliments of Bass Magnet Lures.  They also received an additional $150.00 as the top team in the 115 H.P. and Under Division compliments of Belleville Sport and Lawn.

Local anglers, Bill Tripp and Frank Mondeville weighing in 17.40 lbs., received $550.00 for their fifth place spot and sixth place went to Bowmanville’s , Peter Seto and Whitby’s Bill Nicholls weighing in 16.80 lbs. and taking home $400.00.

The final two spots went to Waterloo and Kitchener’s, Tim Birch and Scott Boyer receiving $250.00 for their weight of 16.70 lbs. and $150.00 went to Bowmanville’s Marc Tepfenhart and Justin Willsher for their weight of 16.60 lbs.

Tournament Director, Pete Thompson was once again very pleased with the turnout.  “2007 has been a great year thus far with all tournament entries up from last year and our committee members thank all anglers for their continued support.  It’s great to see so many anglers coming from all over the province and to see old friends from my Pro Bass days”.  The Series was pleased to welcome Bob Izumi from the Real Fishing show who fished the day with son Darren and from Fish n’ Canada, Pete Bowman who fished with local angler and friend Dean Thompson.

The final one day tournament of 2007 will be on Sunday, August 26th and will once again be at George St. in Belleville.  Anglers are reminded that entries must be postmarked at least one (1) week prior to tournament date and entries for the next tournament are in the fifties already.  For further information, please contact Pete Thompson at 613-967-1024 - evenings.
