* The first two day tournament and fourth tournament of the 2003 season got underway from the George St. ramps in Belleville on Aug. 2 & 3 at 7:00 a.m. with 39 teams heading out onto the Bay.

* With relatively calm waters, a number of teams made long runs for fish and at the 4:00 p.m. check-in time one of these teams took the day one lead. With a good smallmouth bag of 17.44 lbs., Trevor and Tom Davies of Napanee and Trenton grabbed the lead and the only team to weigh-in over 17.00 lbs. Close on their heals were 8 teams with 16.00 to 17.00 lbs. including Andy and Darcy Asselstine with 16.91 lbs., Ralph and Jarmo Moisio with 16.53 lbs. and Rob Coolahan and Rob Mitchell with 16.49 lbs. Mitchell and Coolahan claimed the Big Fish for Day One with a largemouth weighing 4.99 lbs and with that $800.00 In cash.

* Day Two morning was best described in one word: FOG!!. Heavy fog met the anglers at the 7:00 a.m. start time and this led to a delay by tournament director, Pete Thompson. "Safety has to be one of our first priorities, said Thompson, and with all levels of experience and boat driving capabilities, you can’t take the risk of someone getting hurt". At 9:00 a.m. the fog finally let up enough to let the 39 teams go with the check-in time still remaining at 3:00 p.m.

* With another 16.00 lb. plus bag of bass, the Asselstine’s, Andy and Darcy moved up from second place on day one to take the title with a total weight of 33.45 lbs.
