FROM QUINTE FISHING SERIES - MAY 29TH, 2005, DESERONTO
Lawrence
brothers take Series opening tournament for the 2005 season.
Showing that 2004 was no accident, Steve Lawrence of Bancroft and brother
Tom from Stirling won the opening walleye tournament for the second year
running to start the Quinte Fishing Series 2005 season. Weighing in four
fish at 15.40 lbs. gave these two anglers the first place cheque of
$1,800.00 as well as two fleece coats compliments of Mark’s Work Warehouse
and a $50.00 gift certificate from Kelsey’s/Montana’s(Belleville).
Thirty seven boats left Centennial Park in Deseronto at 7:00 a.m. under
clear skies and relatively calm waters with weigh in at 4:00 p.m. The bite
going into the weekend was somewhat slow with a number of teams in
prefishing catching a large number of walleye in the 10" to 13" range but
the bigger fish bite was slow. With the recent change in Ministry
regulations, teams were allowed to bring in four (4) walleye- two of these
fish could be over 63 cm in length with the other two fish being under 63
cm. or you could weigh in a combination of the two sizes but know more than
two fish over the 63.cm. size.
With 13.79 lbs., Waterdowns Scott Morrow and Steve Cory took second spot and
took home $1,200.00 for their time on the water and rounding out the top
three were local anglers Chris Sherman and Dave Henderson from Corbyville
earning $800.00 for their weight of 12.80 lbs.
Napanee’s Grant Elliott and Karl Neumayer, last years runner-up for “Team of
the Year” finished in fourth place with 12.04 lbs. giving them $475.00 and
$275.00 went to Brian Hadley and Terry Langstaff for their weight of 11.23
lbs. giving them fifth place.
Napanee’s Trevor Davies and Randy Scero took the six and final position with
a weight of 11.06 lbs. and received $150.00.
The
H2Optix by Bolle’ Big Fish Award went to Ron Ellery and Richard Vanwort from
Tweed and Thomasburg, and these two area anglers for their 6.18 lb. walleye,
took home $720.00 in cash as well as two pairs of quality sunglasses
compliments of Bolle’ and Big Fish trophy.
The
first winner of the new “115 H.P. and Under Award” sponsored by the Minnow
Shack and the Q.F.S., went to Brian Hadley and Terry Langstaff with their
weight of 11.23 lbs. and they received an additional $150.00 as well as
$50.00 worth of custom soft plastic baits compliments of Bass Magnet Lures.
This award is given to the top placed team at each tournament whose boat is
powered by an engine that is 115 HP or less and we thank the Minnow Shack at
123 Front St., Belleville for their support in bringing this new event to
each tournament.
The
Series is fortunate to have many loyal and supportive sponsors and with the
help of one of these sponsors, Ultimate Powersports in Belleville, the
Series will be using their special events trailer at each tournament this
year as an additional stage and weigh station. Our thanks to Ultimate
Powersports for the use of this great trailer this past weekend and a big
thanks to all Quinte Fishing Series sponsors for their support.
The
next tournament for the Series will be the opening weekend of bass season,
June 26th at the George St. Ramps in Belleville and we look
forward to another successful tournament. Anglers are reminded that entries
must be postmarked at least one week prior to the tournament. For further
