QUINTE FISHING SERIES T0URNAMENT RESULTS
RESULTS FROM THE QUINTE FISHING SERIES JULY 1ST BASS TOURNAMENT The second leg of the Quinte Fishing Series and first bass tournament of the season got under way from the George Street ramps in Belleville Sunday, July 1. A heavy rain that lasted about 15 minutes gave the 48 boats/teams a wet send-off at the 7:00am blast off time, but it cleared fairly quickly leaving mainly overcast skies with sunny periods for the rest of the day. Teams are allowed to weigh-in a five fish limit of either large or small mouth bass that must measure at least 12" in length. The wind picked up in the afternoon and made for a wet and rough ride home for a number of teams, but after all the teams had weighed in, Ralph and Tom Papiest from Toronto/Richmond Hill, took the win. These brothers probably went the furtherst on the day, travelling to Main Duck Island to get the only all smallmouth bag weighted in of 18.32 pounds and that earned them the first place pay cheque of $1900.00. They also took home two waterproof coats compliments of Mark's Work Wearhouse, a $50.00 gift certificate from Kelseys - Belleville/Trenton, and four bait savers compliments of Pringles Boat Tops. In second place with a weight of 16.58 pounds were Corbyville's Bill Brydson and Jeff Kerr from Belleville, who won the opening tournament of 2001 in Deseronto and they earned $1100.00. Rounding out the top three were Belleville's Bob Mackie and Bill Tripp with 15.01 pounds and that earned them $850.00 for their day on the water. In fourth place with 14.53 pounds were Trenton's Tom Davies and Chuck Dopking who took home $650.00. With 14.29 pounds the Lawrence brothers, Tom and Steve, grabbed $400.00 and fifth place. Six and seventh place went to Andy and Darcy Asselstine with 13.97 pounds and Jeff Toppings and Larry Pringle weighing in13.91 pounds. They earned $260.00 and $130.00 respectively. "Big Fish" of the day went to Stirling's Art MacConnell who fishes with partner Blair Smith. His 4.54 pound largemouth earned him $250 .00 plus Big Fish trophy compliments of Quinte Fishing Series. Anglers who fish at least five of the tournaments have the opportunity by totalling their placings, of earning Quinte Fishing Series "Anglers of the Year" honors. This year's prize package is a 15' Princecraft Yukon boat, 15hp Mercury outboard and galvanized trailer. Leading this race by recording just three points after two tournaments are Bill Brydson and Jeff Kerr. Our next tournament is on Sunday, July 22, at the downtown marina in Quinte West (Trenton). Entries must be postmarked by July 15.
