Quinte Fishing Series

WALLEYE/BASS TOURNAMENTS

P.O. Box 20037, Belleville, On, K8N 5V1

RESULTS FROM QUINTE FISHING SERIES "QUINTE CLASSIC"-SEPTEMBER 22/23, 2001

  • The final tournament of the 2001 season for the Quinte Fishing Series got underway from the George St. boat launch in Belleville at 7:00a.m. on Saturday, September 22nd
  • Under cloudy, overcast skies, 34 teams left the docks hoping to catch a limit of 5 bass, either large or smallmouth, that must measure at least 12" in length
  • The 4:00 p.m. weigh-in time saw a number of teams bring in 14 plus pound bags with the day 1 leaders being Belleville's Mat Seeley and Steve Coady with 16.31 lbs. Including the big fish of the day at 4.37 lbs. Running closely behind with 16.31lbs. were Brian Hadley and Terry Langstaff, and rounding out the top three were Howard Laguff and partner Kevin Mooney with 15.94 lbs.
  • The "Team of the Year" race was still very close with anyone of the 5 top teams with a real shot at the title after day1, but with a first day weight of 14.98 lbs Andy and Darcy Asselstine got the early jump on the others.
  • Day 2 saw a gorgeous fall day with calm waters and sunny skies and the talk around the tournament site was of more good weights. Spectators didn't have to wait long as the second team to the scales, Dwayne Sooley and Mike Marshall, weighed in 14.62 lbs. And in that bag was a 5.12 lb largemouth that took over the "Big Fish" lead for the weekend. This weight held up over the rest of the weigh-in and these two anglers took home the $250.00 Big Fish Award and Trophy compliments of the Quinte Fishing Series.
  • After weighing in a big bag day 1 , Mat Seeley and Steve Coady showed it was no fluke by weighing in 17.38 lbs. On Sunday (biggest bag again) and claiming the "Quinte Classic" crown and winners pay chwque of $2250.00!! They also picked up two waterproof jackets compliments of Marks Work Warehouse, $50.00 gift Certificate from Kelseys -Belleville-Trenton-, and 4 bait savers compliments of Pringle's Boat Tops.
  • In second place with a two day weight of 30.48 lbs. Were Picton's Rick Marshall and Mike Lukashal from Carrying Place and they took home $1500.00. These two anglers had won the August 26th tournament in Deseronto and finished the season very well. Day one'2 third place team, Howard Laguff and Kevin Mooney held on to that position on day two and earned $900.00 for thei 29.86lb. weight
  • Fourth and fifth place went to Roslin's Mike and Mary Nabulsi with 29.49lbs and Terry Chesterton and Shane Brawley at 29.45lbs These anglers earned $600.00 and $350.00 respectively for their two days on the water. With weights of 14.98 and 12.69lbs.
  • The Asselstines, Andy and Darcy, took the title of Quinte Fishing Series "Team of the Year" and with that a prize package of a 15' Princecraft Yukon boat, 15hp Mercury outboard engine and galvanized trailer. They narrowly edged out, by two points the runner up duo of Art MacConnell and Blair Smith, but Art and Blair as part of our 5th Anniversary year received free entries for the 2002 season for thei second place finish.

  • With 34 teams in this 2 day tournament, the Quinte Classic saw 337 fish weighed in with all fish safely returned to the Bay alive thanks to the help of the Shimano Live Release Boat. Over 863 pounds of bass were weighed in over the 2 days which shows the great bass fishery the Bay of Quinte has to offer at this time!
  • A number of draw prizes were awarded including a Minn Kota trolling motor, Abu Garcia rods and reels, Berkley line and baits, and Quinte Fishing Series coats and hats.
