Sherman and Henderson just keep rolling along!!
Corbyville's Dave Henderson and Chris Sherman chalk up yet another win in
the Quinte Fishing Series 2005 tournament season. These two local anglers
claimed their third win of the year with a weight of 17.75 lbs. and have now
put a strangle hold on the Quinte Fishing Series "Team of the Year" race
going into the final tournament of 2005 on September 17th and 18th in
Belleville. The win earned this team $1,900.00 as well as two fleece coats
compliments of Mark's Work Warehouse and a $50.00 Gift Certificate from
Kelsey's/Montana's, Belleville. Chris on stage said, " we were just trying
to finish in the top five to keep the pressure on the teams below us in the
race for "Team of the Year". We found fish in the week east of Deseronto but
with the wind blowing so hard today we couldn't get to them so we stayed
very close to the weigh in site all day and found some good quality fish and
really are quite lucky".
The other story of the weekend was the finish of a new team to the Quinte
Fishing Series, Brighton's Duncan Kinmond and Trenton's Reg Greenough. These
two anglers had a great day taking second place overall, first place in the
115 H.P. and under class and Big Fish of the tournament! These anglers held
the overall lead with a weight of 17.59 lbs. for most of the weigh in until
Sherman and Henderson came in but they took home $1,400.00 for their second
place finish. They also received another $150.00 and $50.00 worth of quality
plastic baits from Bass Magnet Lures for being the top placed team using a
motor that is 115 H.P. or less and claimed the Minnow Shack/Q.F.S. 115 H.P.
and Under award. The H2Optix by Bolle` Big Fish Award also went to these two
anglers who received another $800.00 in cash, two pairs of H2Optix
sunglasses and trophy. At the prize presentations, Reg said that "I was
mostly a net man today - Duncan had a great day of fishing and hooked a
bunch of fish".
Rounding out the top three positions were Napanee's Andy and Darcy
Asselstine with 16.94 lbs. and they earned $800.00 for their day on the
water. The father and son team of Dean and Bart Thompson from Deseronto took
the fourth place cheque for $500.00 for their weight of 16.29 lbs. with
Amherstview's John Clayton and Barry Batson from Odessa taking $350.00 for
their fifth place weight of 15.91 lbs. The final payout of $150.00 went to
Belleville's Larry Courtice and Chris Bowers for their weight of 15.39 lbs.
"It was a very busy weekend on the Bay", stated tournament director Pete
Thompson. "We had 40 boats/teams in our tournament in Trenton, the Ontario
Bass Federations Regional Qualifier had a 60 boat field going out of
Belleville and there were power boat races in Deseronto. With that many
boats on the water, our committee decided that, for safety reasons, we would
blast our anglers off at 6:30 a.m. instead of our usual 7:00 a.m. start and
keep our check-in time the same at 4:00 p.m."
The year is winding down with just the final tournament of the season left
in Belleville on September 17th and 18th. The two day Quinte Classic will
see a number of awards and prizes handed out including the "Team of the
Year", Runner-Up Award and a number of draw prizes. As stated before,
Henderson and Sherman have a strangle hold on the team of the year race, but
the Classic must count towards the final standings and if they have a poor
showing at the final tournament it could make it close. Entries for this
final tournament of 2005 must be postmarked by September 12th and
information and entries can be obtained from tournament director Pete
Thompson at 613-967-1024 (evenings) or email him at pthompsontourdir@hotmail.com.
