RESULTS FROM QUINTE FISHING SERIES - MAY 26th, 2006,
DESERONTO
Morris and Nix take opening tournament of the 2006, 10th Anniversary
Season.
Madoc's Shelly Morris and Steve Nix of Stirling took the first place
spot at the opening tournament and only walleye event of the 2006 Quinte
Fishing Series season. These anglers, fishing as a team for the first
time this season, weighed in their limit of four (4) walleye for a
weight of 17.70 lbs. Included in this weight was the "big fish" of the
day topping the scales at 9.25 lbs. For their win, Morris and Nix
claimed the first place cheque of $1,900.00, two embroidered, fleece
coats compliments of Mark's Work Warehouse, a $50.00 gift certificate
from Kelsey's/Montana's Belleville and 2006 Tournament Champion hats and
medallions.
Thirty eight boats left Centennial Park in Deseronto at 7:00 a.m. under
calm waters and warmer temperatures with the weigh in at 4:00 p.m. Going
into the weekend, fishing had been pretty good but the bigger bite was
slow. Teams were allowed to weigh in four walleye and with the Ministry
regulations they could weigh in two over 63 cm. and two under 63 cm. but
fish had to be at least 14" in length.
Frankford's Brian Hadley and Terry Langstaff from Belleville had the
lead for most of the day but their weight of 17.20 lbs. did give them
second place and earned them $1,30.00. These two veteran anglers had to
make a quick exit off the water as a bilge problem had them taking on
water and Terry said, "we at one time had a very large livewell going on
in the bottom of the boat"!
Merland Park owner and Quinte Fishing Series sponsor, Kevin Lavers and
partner Larry Komidar from Ohio claimed the third spot with a weight of
16.15 lbs. In this bag was a walleye of 7.45 lbs. and these anglers
received $800.00 for their day on the water. Fourth place went to a new
team to the Series, Richard and Arnold Campbell from Courtice, On.
weighing in 12.60 lbs. and they took home $475.00. The final two spots
went to Chris Sherman, half of last year's Team of the Year, and new
partner Mat Seeley with 12.45 lbs. earning $275.00 and the sixth spot
went to Belleville's Wayne Barnes and David Reid from Thomasburg
weighing in 12.05 lbs. and they received $150.00.
Morris and Nix with their "Big Fish" of the day, 9.25 lbs., claimed the
Bass Magnet Lures Big Fish Award and with that the $760.00 in cash, big
fish plaque as well as $150.00 of quality plastic lures compliments of
the Nabulsi's at Bass Magnet Lures.
The first winner in 2006 of the "115 H.P. and Under Award" sponsored by
Belleville Sport and Lawn, went to Hadley and Langstaff with their
weight of 17.20 lbs. and they took home an additional $150.00 for their
effort. This award is given to the top placed team at each tournament
whose boat is powered by an engine that is 115 h.p. or less and we thank
Brian at Belleville Sport and Lawn for taking over the sponsorship for
this part of the Series.
The Series in 2006 have seven new sponsors and one of those, the "House
Team" at Mortgage Intelligence in Belleville was on hand to introduce a
new draw prize in place for this our 10th anniversary season.
Representative Peter House, explained on stage a special draw will take
place at the Quinte Classic in September for a team prize of $4,000.00 -
two $2,000.00 vouchers for the Trip of Your Choice! For every five (5)
pounds of bass a team weighs in, they will be awarded one ballot into
this draw and if teams fish all six tournaments, we will award double
ballots for the Classic. Tournament Director Pete Thompson thanked Peter
for this great prize which will certainly make for an exciting Classic
and also introduced Greg Roy, Marketing Coordinator for Princecraft
Boats, who made the trip down to fish from Victoriaville, Quebec.
Princecraft has been a loyal sponsor of the Series for all ten years and
supplies our boat for our "Team of the Year" prize and Thompson thanked
Greg on behalf of all our anglers.
Thompson also thanked all our valued sponsors and especially welcomed
the new sponsors for 2006: Mortgage Intelligence, Anderson Equipment
Sales, Peter Smith- Chevrolet Cadillac Ltd., Quinte Alternator and
Starter and Skevy's Outdoor Specialties in Belleville and Bowen's Petro-Canada
and Hart n' Hart Embroidery/Printing in Napanee. The Series have a new
three year commitment with Shimano Canada that has allowed us to convert
to a water weigh in system which will further reduce the stress on fish
during weigh ins and our thanks go to president Tom Brooke of Shimano
for his assistance with this new partnership.
The next and first bass tournament of 2006 will be on June 25th at
George St. in Belleville and entries are already in the thirties so get
your entries in the mail soon. Anglers are reminded that entries must be
postmarked at least one week prior to the tournament and further info
can be obtained from Pete Thompson at 613-967-1024. |
