Area 23 From mid-May through early June and again from late July until October, there is no better walleye spot in the upper bay than Big Island Shoal, a large, gravel bottomed hump that develops a beautiful coontail bed. It can be a little hard to find, but is usually privately marked. Try drifting in 6 to 12 feet of water, with a 3-way swivel rig and a whole nightcrawler on a floating jig head. Some nice northern pike occasionally show up along the weedline.
